Design & Research Processes

Writing this and the internship report helped me understand Design & Research Processes better. I used to think it was exclusively used for different design processes and how to implement it, which is why in the past I have said to not have explored this expertise area much in my development.

I now realize it’s a lot broader than that and includes things that I would’ve included under U&S. Things like framing into societal problems, which is something that throughout my development has started to matter a lot more. CBL P3 started the trajectory, my multidisciplinary CBL affirmed the feeling, and my internship was applying it into the real world. However, while I was addressing a problem during my internship, it’s not addressing a core problem. For my FBP I want to address a societal problem that is close to my heart.

For my internship itself, it took some time to adapt to the workplace. Mainly their own process and how that is used in practice. Also just getting used to a corporate environment, with sending emails, planning meetings, etc. After my internship, I can still improve on pro activeness in reaching out to stakeholders and the like, I’m still a bit hesitant. However, I made some big steps during this internship towards that more proactive self.

Also, I made a visual representation of how an improved Innovation process would look by combining a double diamond process with that of CROW’s process. The double diamond process is easy in conveying information and adds iteration to what otherwise is a fairly linear process. Given that this was the core thing debated during one of the work group meetings, it shows that working visually is more accessible at a quick glance and more pleasantly to look at. This shows the link between C&A and DRP, but also ideation techniques fall under this link.
